This fine art photography series explores transformation, identity, and the passage of time through conceptual portraiture, using nature as both setting and metaphor. While my daughter serves as the central figure, the project extends beyond personal narrative, symbolizing the universal experience of self-discovery and change.
Inspired by the myth of Psyche, the series visually interprets her journey—her trials, transcendence, and ultimate metamorphosis. Shifting environments, atmospheric lighting, and natural elements mirror her evolution, reinforcing the cyclical nature of growth and transformation.
The visual language of the series is rooted in texture, light, and shadow, evoking both mystery and revelation. Just as Psyche’s story moves from darkness into illumination, the images progress in tone, reflecting emotional and physical shifts. While I was initially drawn to black-and-white for its stark emotional weight, color emerges when needed to emphasize transformation. Every image is captured exclusively with natural light, maintaining a raw, organic connection to the themes of change and resilience.
The final presentation consists of 20 prints on Hahnemühle Photo Rag 100% cotton, chosen for its rich tonal depth and velvety texture, which enhance the series’ tactile, immersive quality. Displayed in a gallery-style format with black frames and white mat borders, the work invites viewers to reflect on their own journeys of transformation, experiencing the series as a visual meditation on change and resilience.
